Let me begin by saying that this was my first time trying this spot. I was in Ypsilanti on a business trip and this place was recommended. I got the 3 meat fried chicken and sides. The chicken had good flavor and the sweet potato fries and potato salad were tasty. The reason I’m giving it a poor rating is based on the undercooked chicken I was given. I had 2 legs and both of them had blood in the middle from being undercooked. Now I’m waiting and praying that I don’t get salmonella 😩

This tiny place on a busy street packs some dynamite flavor with its food. I ordered the Hot Chick, and my girlfriend had the Bahn Mi extra spicy.Sharing an order of fries. Made to order chicken is worth waiting for but it was not a long wait. First bite to last my sandwich was bursting with taste and a bit of heat too.The chicken outsizes the bun,and the bun somewhat disappeared as I ate it ,didn't effect my enjoyment at all. Tasted my girlfriends sandwich and it had a great crunch to it and even more spicy than mine. Can't wait to try more here in the future Oh yeah the fries were fantastic too!

Small store front with a few picnic tables out front and some parking behind. What stands out above all is the delicious food. The fried chicken is perfect. My test is a chicken sandwich and their OG kills it! It can be a mess to eat, but it's worth it. Fries of all kinds are crispy and tenders are huge and perfectly crispy. Very large portions so consider ordering to go since you will be taking food home anyway. Brussel sprouts were unique and the best. A bit sweet and keeps you trying ro figure it out. Biscuit donuts are exactly that! Fried and iced donuts made from biscuit dough! want more! Homemade lemonade is not too sweet and the milkshakes show off the wonderful homemade ice cream. Exceptional!

I came to Ma Lou’s with high expectations, from other rave reviews. However, I would qualify the food as fine— far from excellent. I think it lacked marinating, and the meat itself wasn’t very flavorful. The frying was uneven and not very crispy (very gritty). Compared to other places I’ve been to, this felt a bit tired and uninspired, not to mention very expensive for being comfort food.

Y’all the portion sizes at Ma Lou’s are out of control… after eating my fill it barely looks like I ate anything at all. 🔥 🔥 🔥 I had the OG with thigh meat on medium spice. 12/10 on portion size, but may be oily for some. May want to pat oil off the way some people do to pizza. If you haven’t had the Brussels sprouts before, they’re not on the crispy side but the taste keeps me coming back. They’re the only sweet Brussels sprouts that I can think of a restaurant doing, they’re dense and yet so bright and almost lemony. I’d recommend the sauce on the side and add it to taste. Fries (not shown) from here which I also had, are an extremely solid classic French fry. Perfect doneness, with some fries a little softer and some a little crunchier.
